Hello everyone, Paediatric regional anaesthesia has a home in ESRA, and it’s getting busier. At the ESRA Congress 2026, in Lisbon, members of the ESRA paediatric working group met and we agreed a practical plan to make the field more visible, better connected and easier to get involved in across Europe. A huge thank you to Fatma Saricaoglu, who founded the group and led it through its first year. We now continue under Luc Tielens, recently elected to the ESRA Board, with one aim: make paediatric RA a visible, active part of ESRA, not just the odd session on the programme.
We’re exploring a two-day Paediatric Regional Anaesthesia course for 2027, starting with around 40 places. Residents and early-career anaesthesiologists are a key audience, since they often see far fewer paediatric blocks than senior colleagues.
The ESRA Office will look at venue, budget, faculty and equipment, including running it alongside an existing ESRA course to share facilities. Watch this space.
Blocks are only part of the picture. The group is exploring a course that pairs paediatric RA with Point of Care ultrasound skills (POCUS).
Note: the course, survey and collaboration proposals are in development and remain subject to feasibility and ESRA approval.
