Lisbon 2026 – A Congress in Full Flight
Lisbon in Numbers
For four days, Lisbon became the meeting point for the ESRA community.
People arrived from across Europe and far beyond — bringing different languages, experiences and ideas, but sharing the same enthusiasm for regional anaesthesia and pain medicine.
And just like the swallows that accompanied us throughout Lisbon 2026, the ESRA community was very much in full flight.

And Something New Landed in Lisbon…
The ESRA Village.
Designed as a place to meet, learn, exchange ideas and simply spend time together, the Village brought a different rhythm to the congress.
Short micro-sessions, discussions, demonstrations and informal encounters created opportunities to learn without always sitting in a lecture hall. They brought science closer to conversation — and faculty closer to participants.
Nearby, the new Poster Hubs gave scientific work and its authors a more visible home. Rather than simply displaying research, they encouraged people to stop, ask questions, meet the investigators and discuss the ideas behind the work.
These may seem like small changes in format, but they are part of a bigger ambition: making the ESRA Annual Congress increasingly interactive, practical, social and connected.
More Than Numbers
Of course, a congress cannot really be measured in statistics.
Not every conversation can be counted. Neither can the new collaboration that started over coffee, the technique learned in a workshop, the young investigator presenting for the first time, or the friendship renewed after another year apart.
But the numbers tell us something.
In Lisbon, thousands of individual journeys converged in one place. For a few days, the swallows came together — to learn, teach, debate, reconnect and celebrate what makes ESRA special.
Then they flew home again, carrying new knowledge, ideas, friendships and a little of Lisbon with them.
But not for long.
The next destination is already on the horizon.
🇮🇹 Bologna 2027.
A new city. A new meeting. New ideas, new experiences — and the same ESRA family coming together once again.
Lisbon was a congress in full flight. Next stop: Bologna. See you there!
