LEAD, CONTRIBUTE, INSPIRE: BECOME PART OF ESRA’S FUTURE

Every society renews itself through the people who choose to participate.

In September 2026, during the Annual Congress in Lisbon, ESRA will reach another important milestone with the next electoral cycle for Society leadership positions.

As established in the ESRA bylaws, elections will take place for Executive Board and Major Officer positions, supporting continuity and preparing the Society for its next chapter.

Elections are an important moment in the life of any scientific society—not simply because roles change, but because they offer an opportunity to reflect on where we are, where we want to go, and who will help guide that journey.

Over the coming months, members will receive information regarding timelines, processes and eligibility criteria through the usual ESRA communication channels.

If you are an ESRA member, we encourage you to keep an eye on your inbox and stay informed as updates become available.

But participation in ESRA is not limited to elections.

WHY GET INVOLVED?

Many members first engage with ESRA through a congress, webinar, examination or educational course.

Few imagine that behind those experiences are members who once volunteered their time, joined a committee, proposed an idea, or simply said yes when an opportunity appeared.

Most journeys in ESRA do not begin with leadership positions.

They begin with participation.

Getting involved can mean many different things:
contributing expertise,
sharing ideas,
building projects,
supporting education,
creating opportunities for others,
or helping connect people across countries and generations.

It is also an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Participating in a scientific society allows members to:
• build international networks
• develop leadership and organisational skills
• contribute to education and science
• collaborate with colleagues across Europe and beyond
• gain experience outside their daily clinical environment
• help shape the future of regional anaesthesia and pain medicine

Perhaps most importantly, it allows members to leave something behind for those who come next.

THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO CONTRIBUTE

Not everyone wishes to stand for elected positions—and that is perfectly fine.

ESRA grows through many forms of contribution.

Over the coming months and throughout the year, members may find opportunities to become involved in:
• Committees
• Working groups
• Educational projects
• Webinars and scientific activities
• Congress initiatives
• Communication and publications
• Examination activities
• Research collaborations
• Residents and trainees programmes

Calls for participation in committees and initiatives are regularly shared through ESRA communications.

If one of those opportunities speaks to you, consider taking the first step.

You do not need previous experience.
You do not need to know everyone.
You do not need to have all the answers.

You only need to be willing to contribute.

Because the future of ESRA will not be built by a few people.

It will be built by members who decide to take part.

Your Society.
Your Opportunity.
Your ESRA.
