Instructors in the field of Regional Anaesthesia (RA) are supported and encouraged by ESRA. Education in RA is part of the ESRA’s main goal of establishing Comfortable Care Everywhere.

This course provides additional educational knowledge, teaching skills and instruction techniques to instructors. ESRA offers the opportunity to develop your educational values in Regional Anaesthesia.

 

Required qualifications of an RA instructor are defined by ESRA:

  1. The RA instructor is a professional with expert knowledge and proficiency in RA.
  2. The RA instructor knows and is able to apply basic didactical skills during instructions.

 

Learning Objectives

 

This course aims to develop teaching skills of regional anaesthesia instructors. Regional anaesthesia techniques; indications, performance of specific blocks are not primary focus of this course. It is understood that attendees master these techniques on a high level by meeting enrolment criteria to the course.

 

At the end of this course attendees will have gained a detailed understanding of adult learning styles, teaching styles, the role of the instructor and methods of delivering feedback within the context of regional anaesthesia and pain medicine.

 

Having completed this course the participant will develop as a proficient instructor with the following characteristics:

  • facilitate development of procedural skills relevant to regional anaesthesia and pain medicine in a safe and comfortable environment;
  • recognise, understand and adapt to the learners needs;
  • assess performance and provide feedback in a constructive and non-confrontational manner;
  • facilitate deliberate practice and encourage self-learning and reflection.

Participants

 

The course is limited to 25 participants. Registrations are accepted on a first come first served basis.

 

Target group

This course was specially developed for anaesthesiologists with national and/or international instruction experience in teaching of regional anaesthesia and pain medicine.

 

Course candidate selection

Selection criteria are:

  • Specialist anaesthetist registered with their respective national body;
  • Active teaching role in regional anaesthesia and/or pain medicine;
  • ESRA membership

COURSE FEES

The registration fees are 500 EUR and include the course, 2 coffee breaks, 1 lunch and a drink & bite the evening before the course to meet the faculty and the other participants.

PAYMENT METHODS

Payment of registration fees (in EUR) can be made as follows:

  • Please ensure that the name of the Workshop and of the participant are stated on the bank transfer.
  • Bank charges are the responsibility of the participant and should be paid at source in addition to the registration fees.

  • Registration will only be valid upon receipt of the full payment by the registration department according to the deadline indicated. An email confirming registration will only be sent after receipt of the required fees.
  • Outstanding payments will be collected on-site and charged with the on-site rate. A copy of the bank transfer (or other proof of payment) will be required in the event that registration fees were not credited to the Socity account on time.

Refund of registration fee will be as follows:

Note, in case of cancellation at any stage, a cancellation fee of EUR 30 will be applied and bank transfer charge will not be reimbursed.

  • Cancellations received up and including 7 March 2019 – full refund
  • Cancellations received between 8 and 31 March 2019 – 50% refund
  • As of 1  April 2019 – no refund will be made

Additional remarks

 

# Before the course, all participants will prepare a lecture of 5- 8 minutes about a favourite (non-medical) topic. Key is the how of an interactive presentation, the content is not important. Peer derived feedback will be provided by fellow participants.

 

***Participants will be asked to prepare and deliver a skill session to teach a skill during nerve block performance. US machines and NS-stimulators are available. By turn next topics are taught by the participants in their group. After each turn feedback will be delivered by peers.

accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) with
6 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit
that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

American Medical Association (AMA)

EACCME® credits
