Torches Passed, Horizons Open

This year, ESRA celebrates both continuity and renewal within its Executive Board.We bid a heartfelt farewell to Thomas Volk (Germany), who concluded his mandate as Past President. His commitment, generosity of time, and unwavering availability have profoundly strengthened our society. We remain deeply grateful for his leadership and dedication to advancing ESRA’s mission.

At the same time, we witness an important transition: Sebastien Bloc (France), formerly a member of the Executive Board, has been elected President Elect of ESRA. Taking his place on the Board is Dimitro Dimitriev (Ukraine)—a dedicated anesthesiologist and an active member of the Ukrainian Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (YAPA). Despite the immense challenges posed by the ongoing war in his country, Dimitro has remained unshaken in his commitment to our field and community. His resilience and strength are a source of inspiration, and his presence on the Executive Board is a powerful reminder of ESRA’s unity across borders.

Leadership transitions in ESRA are like the turning of the seasons: each one preserves the roots of what has been nurtured, while allowing new growth, fresh blossoms, and new directions to emerge. New colleagues bring new ideas and renewed energy, while the wisdom and legacy of those who step down continue to enrich our path. This blend ensures that ESRA not only continues its journey but thrives with vigor, purpose, and vision.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” In that spirit, ESRA keeps moving—torches passed, horizons open.
